Dr Kate Gifford presents on Delaying myopia onset in pre-myopia
Synopsis:
Proactive myopia management has become the standard of care for young patients with progressive myopia. Lesser recognized in the clinical setting is the impact of managing children at risk of onset, with research showing that a one-year delay in the onset of myopia could result in around 0.75D less final myopia, equivalent to two to three years of currently available myopia treatments. This lecture will explore the definition of pre-myopia, including the new concept of ‘hyperopic reserve’; risk factor identification and the emerging evidence-base on treatment options including pharmaceutical, optical and light therapies. Clinical considerations and communication advice will also be provided.

Learning Outcomes: Upon completion, participants will be able to:
·         Describe the identification of pre-myopia and relevant predictive risk factors
·         Explain atropine, optical and light therapies for delaying myopia as researched in randomized controlled trials
·         Discuss treatment considerations in pre-myopia management and how this translates to clinical approaches and communication

Assessment:  There are 10 Optional MCQS available HERE

Also presenting along with Dr Kate Gifford is Amy Pillay, Professional Affairs Manager, EssilorLuxottica & Oliver Woo.
